The University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) is a multi-campus university in Northwestern GREECE, in the REGION OF WESTERN MACEDONIA. It was founded in 2002 in Kozani. Today it counts 6 departments:

Faculty of Engineering:
- Department of Mechanical Engineering (Kozani)
- Department of Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering (Kozani)
- Department of Environmental Engineering (Kozani)

Faculty of Educational Sciences:
- Department of Elementary Education (Florina)
- Department of Nursery Education (Florina)

Faculty of Fine arts:
- Department of Applied and Visual Arts (Florina)
 
UoWM - Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1999 and it is one of the founding departments of the University of Western Macedonia. It is rapidly expanding, teaching and research staff members of the Department have managed to achieve considerable research successes, offering to the Department a gradually increasing international recognition and reputation. The Department aims at fostering and promoting education and scientific research. The Department of Mechanical Engineering, beyond its educational function, is involved in developing and operating high-tech research laboratories, participating successfully in a number of national and international competitive research projects that have as an outcome publications in international journals and presentations at international or national conferences. Also, the Department places special emphasis on linking academic research to industrial production, research and development.

Teaching and research staff members of the Department have managed to achieve considerable research successes, offering to the Department a gradually increasing international recognition and reputation. The curriculum of the Department was structured taking into account the undergraduate programs in equivalent departments of Greece and abroad and does not differ in the philosophy, the subjects and the basic directions.
