The Ss Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM) in Skopje is the first state University in the country, founded in 1949.

Today, UKIM represents a functional community of 21 faculties, 5 research institutes and 11 accompanying members developing curricula in all scientific fields - social, technical, natural sciences, mathematics, medical, bio technical sciences and arts and carrying research activities at the faculties and in the independent research institutes as an integral part of the University.

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies (FEEIT) is the most prestigious higher education institution in the country providing Undergraduate four years of study in 7 study programs; Master full-time studies strongly oriented towards research, development and application, in cooperation with companies and universities worldwide organized in 19 study programs; and PhD studies in two study programs: Electrical engineering and information technologies and Metrology.

The Department of Automation and Control System Engineering employs 3 professors, 3 assistant professors, and 4 teaching and research assistants, and covers a number of courses in the fields of modern control systems, robotics, industrial automation, artificial intelligence, etc., at graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level at the Faculty.
The Department is also a regular and active contributor to the development of Macedonian education and industry. Its members have realized many domestic and international scientific, research and application projects, among which the most significant are: the development of SCADA for the hydro-system Zletovica, the implementation of a distributed control system for hydro-system Strezevo, the design of control and monitoring system for water distribution network in Probistip, revision and supervision of several international projects for the building and automation of new railway sections in the country, the design and production of robotic kits and programmable logic control kits for elementary schools and vocational high schools, and the development of cloud-based Europe-wide remote access infrastructure for education in microelectronics.
