The project targets in creating and supporting a cross-border network of civil protection volunteers and competent authorities, which will be the base of a pioneer framework for the management of natural hazards and particularly wildland fires. The scope is to reinforce the cross-border preparedness via mitigating the disastrous effects of wildland fires, and also via strengthening the resilience of the cross-border societies. The civil protection network which will be created, will provide training and equipment to its members in order to play a crucial role in protecting the natural and human environment at the cross-border area and especially the areas of high socio-economic importance which are vulnerable to wildland fires.
The project will also involve the public through outreach and awareness events. The proposed project’s added value comes from the fact that it is based on good practices, since it is designed to exploit outcomes of other finished and successful cross-border co-operation projects, such as OUTLAND and eOUTLAND (Interreg Greece-Bulgaria). This will be achieved through the capitalization of their impact and through further developing of their results.
